Kim Waale – SLOW REVEAL

Kim Waale – SLOW REVEAL

Experience this work on the hilltop.

Slow Reveal is a re-invention of Amphitheatre, an installation I created for SQHAP in the 2003 exhibition Conversations with Nature: Site-based Installations by Four Artists. Now, 17 years later, I have re-visited Amphitheatre’s concept and re-used its material parts to create Slow Reveal for the 2020 SQHAP Personal Program, curated by Sayward Schoonmaker. I am deeply encouraged and invigorated by Sayward’s tireless dedication to art and generous willingness to work hard physically and intellectually.

Kim Waale was born and raised in Thief River Falls in rural northwest Minnesota. She moved to Syracuse, NY and completed her MFA in sculpture. She is currently a professor at Cazenovia College in NY teaching studio art and art history courses and is Chair of Art and Design. She credits exposure to the hands-on way of life involved in small-family farms with her approach to artmaking.

Waale has been an artist-in-residence in Wales, Spain, Macedonia, Ecuador and the U S. She received grants, fellowships and residencies from organizations including I-Park (Environmental Art), Sculpture Space, Light Work, International Studio Program (NYC), Saltonstall Foundation, Harlech Biennial (Wales), A Solaina de Piloño (Spain) and the Millay Colony. She has exhibited at museums/galleries such as Plas Glyn-y-Weddw (Wales), the Everson Museum (Syracuse), Hallwalls Contemporary Art Center (Buffalo), A. I. R. Gallery (NYC), McCormick Freedom Museum (Chicago), Housatonic Museum (CT), Memorial Art Gallery (Rochester, NY), and in Bulgaria, Macedonia and Spain.
